Longest run in a while

Felt good. Left the house with the intentions of just running 6..that was if my knees could take it. When I got to my halfway mark I thought..hmm I wonder how far it is to the next light. When I got to the light I thought hmm if I turn here I can go to my sister-in-laws..I wonder how far that is..and since I couldn’t use the bathroom at home I can use her’s and refill my water. So I did. Then said by to my nephew and ran back home. ;-)

Ever taken a COLD shower after a run?!! YOWZA!!

No clue what possessed me to run, but I was just sitting at my computer messing with MySpace trying to put Stronger as my profile song, then I thought I listen to it on my iTunes, then I thought well I just play my ‘running playlist’. IT WAS OVER AFTER THAT! HAD TO RUN! Just got up, got dressed and headed out :-D

One thing though..I should check the weather conditions first before shooting a GU and heading out amp’d. Oh, and take a water bottle too. LOL

Got back and I was beet red, jumped in the shower with it COLD after some OOO OOOs and AH AHs. It was just right. What is it about cold water that makes things softer..hair..skin..the bottom of the shower! Almost fell LOL

Wow! It is amazing how AMP’D OUT you can get from running! This is an OUTSTANDING feeling! I gotta do this more often. Maybe start running in the mornings before taking my kid to school. It’ll be cooler and light out ;-) Food for thought.

Gotta gooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Small run

My mind was into running today, but my body said ’screw you’. All my muscles were tight when I was stretching, and from my first step I knew I needed to keep it short.

Was considering trying to run another 3 tonite, but we’ll see what happens. One never knows one minute to the next what may happen ;-)

Watch came up with ‘fatal gps error’ so I’m not quite sure what my time was. Who cares! I had fun!

Knocked out 3.46 and had FUN doing it!

I woke up this morning KNOWING I wanted to run. Couldn’t muster myself in the morning, but got some well needed extra sleep. That was induced by an eventfully fun Friday, which was some well neeed stress was released as well.  Meaning I was 3 “ice cold beverages” past my usual limit of 2, getting to sleep sometime around 3:15AM, and then having to work from 10am-6pm. Hence the needing of extra sleep. I’ll have to do it again sometime. Minus the going to bed at 3:15AM and having to work the next day LOL ;-)

Anywayzz…I was at Walmart tonite and happened to walk by the isle with foot stuff. My eye caught the insert for your shoes that is for knee support. It was the whole insert though, and I already have inserts for arch support. When I was looking at the package it was really only supporting the heel. So I just got the Dr. Schols (however you spell it) massaging gel heels inserts. OMGosh, these things are amazing! When I headed out on my run and all through it..it was like running on air. They are great! And no knee pain at all.

During my run, I only looked at my watch once..it was to tell my son (who once again went scootering with me and couln’t keep up *sigh*) that we were at 1.2 and I was going to go a couple more lights up and flip back. I happened to sneak a peak at my pace and it was 10:07.

The entire run I only focused on running and having FUN doing it..no TIME, no DISTANCE (although I did want to go 3.1 atleast, but I wasn’t going to push it if my body said NO), and no PACE. When I got back to the house, I turned off my GPS and walked about a block or so before checking my summary. When I did, I seen I did 3.4 which I thought was pretty good, and my average pace was 9:34. I said out loud YES!!!! When I got back from the run…I was wired the rest of the night..LOL.

I just proved to myself I can run and have FUN and not worry about TIME, DISTANCE, or PACE, and still accomplish ALL THREE! ;-)

I didn’t even want to post this workout!!

I’m so utterly confused and frustrated. According to this workout… I’m obviously not physically up to completing Vegas.  I got out 2.1 miles and had to turn around and walk back. I had pretty much made the decision that I couldn’t do Vegas financially since I’m only part-time employed and haven’t found a full time job yet AND have bills to pay. So the money I have saved up must be used to be a parent and support my son, but I thought there MIGHT be the chance if I was physically able to do it, I could borrow the money. Realizing that I can not do Vegas honestly is right up there with 9/18/07 and having to choose to quit my job. It is an emotional challenge for me to get over right now.

I’m trying not to be hard on myself, but this is just chalked on the list of freaking WONDERFUL things that have happened over the past year, BUT I have to believe in both of my mottos.

Life motto - EVERYTHING happens for a reason

RUNNING motto - DREAM IT! PURSUE IT! STICK WITH IT! LIVE IT!

I will be back for Vegas next year when it will be called the Las Vegas Rock-n-Roll Marathon, but as for now my new goal will be the San Diego Rock-n-Roll Marathon.

I HAVE and will continue to ‘TRIUMPH in the face of adversity’!!

Had a good run. Ran up the street and back. I walked about 4-5 times about 10-15 steps. Knee only seemed to talk to me on uphills. Again I only looked at my watch after I ran.

I’M NOT BROKEN..UH ANYMORE

I went to the bay for a late run. I was so proud of myself..I didn’t look at my watch once. Well, once when I finished running, but not at all during the run.

I just listened to what my body was telling me, and enjoyed the run.  When something felt off..I slowed down. I’m trying not to be upset with the pace, but since I have been pace minded since I started running in March..it’s a little hard to retrain my brain that it is a perfectly good pace for coming off of an injury and taking off 2 weeks.

I wore a different pair of shoes today, and didn’t really have much soreness when running like I did on Sunday. The other pair of shoes are the same ones I wore in the Nike+ race and hurt my quad, so I think I’ll have to hang them up and continue to use the ones I wore today. I haven’t had any problems with them. No soreness at all in my knee right now. Going to take tomorrow off and run again on Thursday

Peace Out! ;-)

My injuries are only part my fault

I’ve been wondering why lately I’ve been getting hurt. In my right hip area (quad muscle and hip tendon) and in my left knee (ligaments and cartilage). I racked my brain..telling myself it CAN’T just be ME. So I searched on the internet for ‘foods that rebuild cartilage’. I came across the below article, and after reading it I figured it out! It ISN’T all me! Yes I have pushed myself, but that is AFTER I feel soreness not BEFORE. My knee only started hurting when I run after I started this new job I have at this bakery, because I stand for 8 hours a day. I don’t really have the ability to sit. Then I go out and run. My first left knee injury to the ligament happened after I tried to run 11 miles. I’d been working at this place for about 2 weeks, and didn’t really run because I was waiting for my quad muscle to heal.

So I believe that the part of the reason I keep getting hurt is because of the TWO arthritises (is that a word..LOL) I have. I don’t talk about it much, but when I was in the Navy they diagnosed me at 22 with RA. Not a real bad case compared to some people, but enough to make my hips, knees, and ankles hurt after long periods of standing or sometimes at night if it is cloudy (atmospheric pressure). I’ve also been told by my dad that OA runs in our family. That one effects my shoulder joints and elbows. It’s kind of nasty sound when I have to ‘pop’ my shoulder to relieve pressure.

The below article was very informative to me. :-)

Arthritis can be reversible! Proper diet, the right supplements and lifestyle changes can lead to huge improvements in the joints. You can stop inflammation, degeneration and pain. Daily exercise is very important in maintaining joint flexibility, as well as lubricating arthritic joints. See below for list of beneficial foods, supplements and herbs.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition that effects the entire body, but is mostly concentrated in the joints. RA attacks all the synovial joints (mirroring on each side of the body) these joints then make crinkling cellophane noises.

Rheumatoid Arthritis usually occurs in people under the age of 40 including children. Stress seems to have a triggering effect for this illness in some people. It is also common to have other family members who have Rheumatoid arthritis. There is also research being done about “Leaky Gut Syndrome” and Rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder. The bodies own immune system “attacks ” the synovial fluid in the joints causing inflammation that damages bone, cartilage, and tendons. It can also leave scar tissue that narrows the space between the joints.

Symptoms: fatigue, low grade fever, weakness, joint stiffness, effected joints become warm and tender with swelling.

Suggestions: Food allergies can aggravate RA. The most common foods that affect RA are: wheat, milk, dairy products, beef, and foods in the night shade family: tomato, white potato, eggplant, peppers, and tobacco. click here for elimination diet to get on the road to your good health! Once the allergens are identified, they can be eliminated from the diet. A diet low in sugar and saturated fats is very beneficial to RA patients. See list below for beneficial supplements and herbs.

Osteoarthritis affects individual joints, these joints then make popping, clicking and banging noises. Also called degenerative joint disease, OA is caused by degeneration of cartilage between the joints. The damaged cartilage then causes a release of an enzyme that destroys more cartilage. X-rays will show a narrowing between the bones.

There are two forms of Osteoarthritis: primary caused from wear and tear usually seen in people over forty. Secondary caused by inherited factors or deformities in the joints, trauma, surgery or a previous inflammatory disease. Athletes, Dancers and Runners may develop Osteoarthritis before the age af 40 because of the excess strain put on their joints.

Symptoms: local tenderness, soft tissue swelling, boney swelling, and boney nodules in any of the weight-bearing joints of the knees, hips, ankles, and sometimes hands.

Arthritis Remedies: It’s critical to eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Especially beneficial are: cherries, blueberries, and blackberries. Eat more sulfur containing foods: asparagus, eggs, garlic, onions, brussel sprouts and cabbage, they help rebuild the bone, cartilage, and connective tissue.

Avoid foods in the night shade family: tomato, white potato, eggplant, peppers, and tobacco, they contain solanine. Solanine is a poison, a natural carcinogen causing pain in the muscles, and aggrevating arthritis.
