Found out that the mind truly rules the body

Needed to workout the BURN from last night. I truly do love the BURN you get when you’ve had a GOOD workout! It follows you into the next day, reminding you that you did a GREAT job training.

I on the other hand, I don’t like PAIN. That is different. PAIN means you HURT something and you have to take time off to REPAIR.

At work I stand and bend up and down all day. I could feel the BURN and couldn’t help but SMILE! What a freak! LOL. The guys at work probably think the same thing. They think I’m crazy for running anyway, but they always inquire. ‘Did you run this weekend?, How far did you run?, What was your time?’ It’s funny how contagious running is..even for non-runners ;-)

I came home and while I was making dinner (homemade chicken nuggets, tater-tots, and steamed veggies..mmmmm!) I couldn’t help but think about wanting to run. But I kept looking at the time and getting discouraged. After everything was done I told everyone to ‘Dig in..I’m gonna go do 3 to work out my legs’. As I was getting dressed I thought..’what the heck did I just say?!! I said, I’m gonna go do 3 like it was NOTHING!! Whoa! That was funny to me. I would’ve never said that a year ago. In fact, I whined about running the Carlsbad 5000 when propositioned last March.

On last nights run I had fun! I just RAN. I just headed out..no water, no chapstick, no GU. This run is where I truly found that the mind rules the body. I  I started out at a 8:41 pace for about a 1/4 mile and slowed down to 9:41. I was just running and listening to my music. I wasn’t focused on PACE. All along my run I would look at my watch to see my pace time, but I wouldn’t adjust my speed. I just cruised. I noticed that when my body needed to slow it would, but then when I would start to think about the marathon, the new things that I’m incorporating into my training, it excited me and when I would look at my watch I would be at like 9:20. I was even expecting my legs to get mad at me, but not once. Maybe it was because it was like 54 degrees outside and my legs were being frozen. LOL

All I can say is this is one of the funnest (is that a word) runs I’ve had, and it was a spur of the moment run. It’s great to have the ability to just pick up and run! :-)

800 x 4 - Almost quit on 3

Well started out the day with a post saying I was glad to get past the weekend and I’m starting fresh with training for May. I mentioned 3 things I wanted incorporate in my training this time around and I was able to accomplish 2 of them. I did the 850 stairs and I did 4 - half mile splits.

1st - 4:13

2nd - 4:23

3rd - 4:27

4th - 4:28

The half mile I ran was from my front door step to a light I know is a half mile from my house it is only flat for about an eighth of a mile and then it is a gradual incline around a corner to a steeper incline. I didn’t stop but for a second each time a split ended. Then I jogged back to my start point and did it again. On the 3rd one I was saying to myself ‘these things are ass-kickers..I’m only going to do 3 tonite.’

Then I thought of this guy..!!!

If he can complete his 6th marathon sub 4:00 with the issues of both calf muscles seizing and pulling the left hamstring at mile 19, and then only yards from the finish line have the hamstring pull again..I think I can pull one more half mile spilt outta my butt! ;-)

Whew! Glad this weekend is over

This was the weirdest weekend for me. I’m glad it is over.

Now I can focus on May. I have some new things I’m going to try for training. I was looking on Runner’s World and found some interesting tips.

- Yasso 800s - These are very interesting. If you want your marathon time to be 3:00, then you need to get your 800s to 3:00 minutes

- Hill training - running uses a lot of quad fibers, so hill training strenthens these.

- Thought about step training too. At my church there is a set of stairs that will be a great workout

I’m also busting out my runner’s book to see if I can get more tips from there too.

Happy training! Peace out! ;-)

Take it for whatever it is

…Interview with God

This is a pretty cool video..not profoundly godly.

Just makes you think. The pictures are great! Music got to me after awhile, so you can turn it off.

Enjoy though. Makes you think!

Feels good to be back running

I NEEDED to run tonite. I felt like such a schmuck for not running the past week. Monday I was sore from Sunday. Which is to be expected I jumped from a max of 10 to 13.1. Then because of the weird weather we have here with the clouds and rain, my arthritis kicked in. I’m sure I would’ve been in more discomfort if it wasn’t for the supplements I’m taking.

Anyway, it felt good to run tonite.

Peace Out! ;-)

New PR - My own HALF MARATHON in the bag..babay!!

A couple of things I need to think of for my next LONG run like this ~

1. Pick another route! Holy crap! Nothing but uphills and head wind.

2. Even though I pee’d before I left..make sure there is a pit stop along the way. I had to hold IT for almost 5 miles. It felt like my bladder was going to explode with every step.

3. Wear a different sports bra, or a band-aid. Got a blister. A small one. No chaffing though. Thank goodness

I was at around 12.60 when I got a call from my son asking where I was at. He was worried because I told him I was going to leave at 7:00am and it was somewhere around 10 or 10:30am and I wasn’t back yet. That’s because I got a late start. Man..late for my own half marathon. LOL Anyway, when I told him where I was at..he wanted to meet me and ride along next to me the rest of the way home. When I met him I was at 12.87. Next thing I know, I hear my watch beep that it is 13.00. I said ‘There it is boy! .1 to go and I’ve just completed my own half marathon!’ I became overwhelmed and had to look up to keep the tear from falling that welled up in my eyes and telling myself. I never thought I’d hear those words utter from my mouth. Once I controlled myself I looked down and it was 13.11. I raised my hands above my head in victory..saying ‘Yes! I did it boy!’ and the most wonderful words I’ve hear yet came from my son. He said, ‘I’M PROUD OF YOU MOM..YOU GOT SPUNK!’ LOL

So what if it wasn’t an ‘official’ half marathon. It was MY half marathon! And hearing those words made it all worth while
